Workshop Areas:
Monday to Thursday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm Friday 9.30 am - 4.30 pm
Formal Workshops.
All day sessions 10.00am-4.00pm.
Morning sessions 10.00am-1.00pm
Afternoon sessions 2.00pm-4.00pm

Access Policy
Although primarily used by Fashion and Textiles students, this area provides workshops and access for students across all aspects of art and design. Various levels of instruction are available in all the above-mentioned disciplines. Formal workshops are booked and arranged in conjunction with the relevant member of academic staff. All individual bookable access is managed by the Student Project Coordinators or (S.P.C.'s) access has to be booked through them prior to entry. They will discuss your needs and book a consultation with a member of technical staff. This can be in the form of a print room meet up or on line if preferred,

Printed Textiles Evening Access
Conditions :
The workshop areas are available for evening access 5pm-7.30pm Monday-Thursday during term time.
Rooms OCO9 and OCO43 are for screen printing purposes only, all equipment (including heat presses) apart from screen drying cabinets and washout areas will not be available. All preparatory work e.g. screen making and or colour mixing should be carried out during day time booked sessions. A member of printmaking staff will be available to monitor the print rooms during these periods and to ensure equipment is properly shut down before exiting the print rooms.
Approved evening users will take the responsibility for the safe running of the studio(s) when staffing are not directly present in the area. This is not just for themselves but all others using the studio at the time.
That students using the area has a capable level of experience to use the machinery and materials. Remember only users that are competent and able to complete work independently should be accessing the area after 5pm and departing from the area no later than 7.30 pm.
Evening access is primarily as a means of printing and finishing work. Just to re-emphasize pre-press and screen making should be scheduled and completed during the day.
Regarding scheduling and assessing print times, it is prudent to work with the staff and take their advice on how long a piece of printing will take. They will advise you on the studio that will be available, and any particular issues that they may have for the following morning. For example – the presses/beds will need to be clear for formal workshops scheduled for the following morning.
That essential H&S management appropriate to the area is adhered to by all users.
In relation to COSHH regulation that all chemicals used during the sessions are safely returned into storage.
Make good’ the working area that you are working in and check that other users do the same. At the end of the evening session, please ensure that the area is safe from generally hazards such as obstructions and flammable materials before leaving.
That all equipment and accessories are correctly switched off, drained off, and ‘made safe’ at the end of each session.
To be aware of general FCA H&S policy, & legislation
In Cases of Emergency:
Additional Security Cover is provide by Security Guard presence in B and D block
Patrol parameters to be confirmed(need for completed paperwork)
Emergency Contact: As agreed with UWE Security is firstly the control room 86404 (using mobile – 0117 3286404)
or the gatehouse 82552 (using mobile - 0117 3282552)
They will directly link up the security operative to respond.
Please also remind staff/dedicated users that in cases of real emergency to go straight to 9999(internally) otherwise 999(using mobiles etc)
An ‘Accident Report’ will be required in reference to any incident during evening access. The team leader should liaise with supervising staff and dedicated users as soon as possible to complete such detail.
